IS THERE ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR THE LORD?

We thank the LORD indeed for His new covenant with His people, saying “I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 8:10). Today we shall continue to meditate on God’s Word from Jeremiah 32, reminding us that there is nothing too hard for the LORD to carry out either His judgment or His salvation.

THE LORD IS THE ALMIGHTY GOD, THE CREATOR

We thank God for revealing Himself to us through His Creation, His Word, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit so that we may know Him, the living and true God, the Creator, who is always sovereign, eternal, unchangeable, almighty, all-knowing, all-merciful, ever-present, holy, just, good, and faithful. Thus, there is nothing too hard for the LORD to fulfil His Word, either to judge unrepentant sinners or to save and bless repentant ones, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:25b-26). The Holy Spirit revealed the LORD God to Jeremiah so that he could know, trust, pray, and record His Word.

Jeremiah 32:17 Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: 18 Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, 19 Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Surely, no one is able to create the heavens, the earth, the universe and all things out of nothing except God the Almighty. Thus, nothing is too hard for the Lord to do His will and Word, either to judge or to bless. God says, “See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand (Deuteronomy 32:39).

NOTHING IS TOO HARD FOR THE LORD TO JUDGE

King Zedekiah and the people of Judah did not believe God’s Word of warnings and judgement through His true prophet Jeremiah but listened to the soothing words of false peace from their false prophets. Thus, they did not repent of their sins, transgressions and idolatry nor come back to the Lord to worship and serve Him. King Zedekiah even put Jeremiah in prison. As a result, King Zedekiah and the people of Judah were taken in captivity to Babylon. King Zedekiah was judged before King Nebuchadnezzar, “Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah. 7 Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon” (Jer 39:6-7). Truly, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? 28 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it” (Jer 32:27). The EU, NATO and the world may not stop Putin’s ambition to invade Ukraine, but nothing is too hard for the Lord to judge him and stop him!

NOTHING IS TOO HARD FOR THE LORD TO BLESS

God is so gracious and merciful. He faithfully kept His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David although their children broke the covenant. King Zedekiah and the people of Judah were still in Jerusalem during the Babylonian siege, but God graciously let them know that He would bring their children back to their Land after 70 years of captivity, for there is nothing too hard for the LORD to bless them. To prove His Word and promises, God commanded Jeremiah to purchase the field from his uncle’s son Hanameel, even during the Babylonian siege while Jeremiah was in prison (Jeremiah 32:6-15). At first, Jeremiah did not understand, so he prayed to the LORD, and the LORD confirmed that He would bring the people of Judah back to their Land as nothing is too hard for the LORD, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?... 40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. 41 Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul (Jeremiah 32:27, 40-41).

OUR PROPER ATTITUDES

1. Fear God and come back to the LORD in repentance as He is able to judge and chastise us without respect of persons (Romans 2:1-11; 1 Corinthians 11:30-32).

2. Worship the LORD, glorify Him, and serve Him with joy and gratitude (Revelation 4:11; 5:12-14;14:7)

3. Trust in the LORD and His Word, sovereignty and mighty work to help us and deliver us in our troubles and difficulties as He is able to do all things well, even to make all things work together for good to us according to His will, for nothing is too hard for Him (Genesis 18:14; Jeremiah 32:27; Romans 8:28).

4. Pray to the LORD to put His fear in our hearts and our children’s hearts (Jeremiah 32:40).

May the holy Lord graciously put the fear of Him in our hearts and our children’s so that we may fear Him, worship Him, serve Him, obey Him and depart from sins in repentance. May the almighty Lord help us to wholeheartedly seek Him and trust in Him in all things, for there is nothing too hard for Him. Amen. HN.
